With the official launch of RTM build of Windows 8.1 for TechNet and MSDN subscribers, Microsoft yesterday also released the Skype’s Pre-Release version for Windows 8.1 which will substitute the messenger app in Windows. The latest version does make sense given that Skype will be bundled with Windows 8.1.

So, what is new? As Microsoft puts it, the first-ever, completely incorporated version of Skype guarantees “you’ll never miss a message.”

In addition to being capable to sight your IMs and missed calls and, Skype for Windows 8.1 will permit you to answer calls right from your lock screen. Moreover, the same can be done on the Start screen as well, plus you can also select how to answer: an audio call, a video call, send an IM or decline instead.

Next up, not only can you call anybody from your People app and held favorites, but Skype for Windows 8.1 will allow you click-to-call right over Internet Explorer. Here is that capability in action:

Skype-Pre-Release-For-Windows 8.1

Last but definitely not least, Skype for Windows 8.1 comprises app-to-app induction. In short, this means Skype will be moved to the side spontaneously when you will click on a link or shared item for simpler multi-tasking.

You can also snap Skype and amend the size of the window. For those that devote a lot of time in Skype, these improvements will be very comfortable.

For now however, these 3 features still are not accessible for everybody. Windows 8.1 still not released and this update is marked as a pre-release.

Microsoft has not disclosed its plans to release Skype for Windows 8.1 publicly  We believe, though, that it will be set in time for when the free OS update starts rolling out. The timing will be impeccable for everyone purchasing new Windows devices in time for the break.
