Microsoft India’s retail online store was down on Monday after a credible hack, with an allegedly Chinese group called Evil Shadow Team posting rebuilt screenshots that appeared to be of fractionally undefined customers’ login credentials.

The Microsoft Store India (www.microsoftstore.co.in) website displayed an error message committing to recover access as soon as possible.

The Evil Shadow Team obscured the full usernames and passwords in the images posted on a blog run by Evil Shadow Team member 7z1 (ps.s.blog.163.com). Writing in Mandarin, 7z1 represents himself as a “patriotic hacker.”

Microsoft’s Indian online Store is administered by local company Quasar Media. A spokesman said the company was interrogating the whole case.

Spokesman Rahul Roy said, “I am not sure when the site will be up again or what happened”.

A representative at Microsoft India said he was incapable to comment promptly.
