Following the release of the steady version of chrome 27 for Android platform, Google unveiled Chrome 28 (28.0.1500.2) beta version for Android which brings number of requested features along with the new code base. This update comes up with a built-in Google translator bar (just like in desktop’s version), a fresh and more mobile-friendly error pages and full-screen support on Tablet PCs.

The beta version can be downloaded directly from

But remember one thing that Chrome 28 is a beta version, so you won’t be able to get it from store’s search function, it can only be downloaded from the above link.

The biggest value-addition in this update is undoubtedly is the inclusion of Google translation bar.  For those who use Chrome on their desktops, this is exactly the same translation bar which can be used now while on the go. When you come across any site, which is not in the same language as of your phone/tablet, then you just need to tap the ‘translate’ button.

Full-Screen on Tablets and Full-Screen API Support

Full-screen support on smartphones was made available last month, but now web pages can also be viewed on Full-Screen on tablets as well. As you scroll down, the top toolbar will disappear so that you can see more web page content more clearly. Just scroll up marginally to bring the top toolbar back.

The HTML5 API that provides websites a finer control over getting in and out of the full-screen is now supported on Tablet PCs as well. Check out the screenshot below and the demo page.

Bandwidth Savings Graph

Chrome bandwidth saving feature which was first made available in Chrome 26 is now available for Chrome 28 also which will display a neat graph showing how many bits and bytes have been saved by enabling the compression in browser.

Here is the official Chrome 28 beta for Android smartphones and tablets changelog:

  • Google Translate: When you come across a page written in a language that isn’t in the same language as your phone or tablet, look for the translation bar.
  • Fullscreen on tablets: Simply scroll the page to dismiss the toolbar.
  • Support for fullscreen API.
  • New graph showing your estimated bandwidth savings when you use the experimental data compression feature.
  • Mobile friendly error pages.

Stable version of Chrome 28 is expected to be released in June, so stay tuned for more updates.
