Today, unofficially Apple will be celebrating another significant milestone of their App Store — there are now more than 1 million apps submitted to its marketplace since July 2008, according to App Store discovery company Appsfire.

Co-founder of Appsfire, Ouriel Ohayon, disclosed some details of where the Apple App Store is standing today. Out of the 1 million applications submissions since 2008, 493,289 apps were paid and 158,848 were gaming apps. Out of the 736,247 apps that are presently live, 336,270 are paid which accounts for 45 percent of total live apps), while 120,065 are gaming apps and accounts 16 percent of 736,247 apps.

This app count comprises of only iOS apps and doesn’t includes apps of Mac App Store.

It has been reported earlier that the app count has reached over 1 million but now Appsfire confirmed the milestone has now been reached in one of its tweet.

While it is still doubtful that Apple will share the fact openly that the company generally concentrates on the number of live apps in its App Store which clearly shows that how big the marketplace has become. The App Store is used by a large percentage of 400 million iTunes account holders’, which accounts 35 billion downloads since its launch.

Apple few days back announced that the count of the application in its App Store had increased over 700,000 live apps at its iPad mini launch event but since then Apple has not revealed any figure yet.

As Apple Inc. has seen developers removing their titles from the App Store and it has been made mandatory to uphold copyright notices (also removing rules violating apps and moreover implementing strict policies on its storefront), therefore live apps count is much below the number of total apps submitted for approval.

After this milestone, thousands of more apps may also have been submitted for Appls’s approval and many of them may have beenn rejected, but Appsfire was unable to take those apps into account.

During the iPhone 5 launch event, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced 90 percent of App Store apps were downloaded every month:

The average customer now is using over 100 apps, said Cook. It’s been an absolute revolution. It’s phenomenal. Together with the incredible products, these have helped us achieve an incredible milestone.

With the Google Play Store now have more than 675,000 apps and seen more than 25 billion downloads which was announced 2 months back, Google and Apple are competing each other closely for their App store’s app counts. Although, Apple tightly handling its App Store, so it would be fair to say that the Apple App Store provides better quality applications for its users over its open competitor Google.
