A recent video has caught up the fancy and delight of one and all, in which and Anonymous has claimed to target Facebook with a massive attack directed on January 28. the video which was uploaded on YouTube on Monday has claimed the attack, disguised under the name of a hacked network.

“An online war has begun between Anonymous, the people and the government of the United States,” the video begins. “While SOPA and PIPA may be postponed from Congress, this doesn’t guarantee that our Internet rights will be upheld.”

And you thought the Wikipedia shut down was too much to handle.
The attacks of anonymous have come into the limelight following the shut down of Megaupload, the file sharing site on Friday by the U..S Government. The anonymous has attacked the website of the U.S. Department of Justice, and several others.

The YouTube video in question, which was uploaded on Monday, has urged the the Americans to contribute in the hacking and attacking by downloading Low Orbit Ion Cannon (LOIC), a tool which helps in crushing down the web sites by sending thousands of packets of information at their servers. The same tool was deployed in attacking the web site of the Department of Justice.

The video has provided briefs on downloading and running this program. Also mentioned is the time for carrying out this activity on Jan 28 – 12 am. However no specific time zone has been mentioned.

“Would you like to become part of the greatest Internet protests and first official cyber war?,” the video asks. “Operation Global Blackout is ongoing and everyone can be a part of it.”

However in the video, the anonymous has acknowledged the difficulties present in attacking a web site as large as Facebook is the largest social networking website and is run across various servers around the world.

“While it is true that Facebook has at least 60,000 servers, it is still possible to bring it down,” says the Anonymous voice. “Anonymous needs the help of the people.”

Although the users of YouTube have very smartly raised up an important question – why would Anonymous want to hurt and attack Facebook, even after knowing that the web site has stood by Wikipedia and the rest, as a sign of protest against SOP and PIPA?

Without explaining much, the video seems to link this privately owned social networking web site and the U.S. Government. Perhaps, the attack has come up in the light of the delayed response by the owner of Facebook. Zuckerberg, in discouraging SOPA and PIPA, the CNET postulated.

A similar kind of attack on Facebook were previously heard on 5 November 2011, but an international gang of hactivists, who claimed to shut down the web site due to the user privacy concerns. However, no attack was formulated and the hacker network called it off as the work of peripheral members.
