There is a search feature on FB, powered by Bing, but it is not powerful enough and well enough organized to be widely used. This is clearly a problem within Facebook that has to be addressed.
3. Facebook has a Lot of Information That Can Aid Search Results
Facebook can probably improve upon Google’s search capabilities enormously by the simple fact that it knows so much more about its users than Google does. Facebook can tell the difference between actual interests and spam, it can access not only what you like, but what your contacts like as well.
4. A Search Engine Would Complete the Connection
Facebook users are connected to each other, but have to go outside of FB for access to anyone not on Facebook. A search engine would leap that chasm, and fully connect FB to the world.
5. Search Results Can Aid Facebook
This is the inverse to number 3, but it is clear that the introduction of a search engine will provide Facebook with even more data about what their members want, and are actively looking for, allowing them to target advertising even more tightly, privacy issues be damned.
These abilities to fully exploit the data that Facebook has access to must be an incredible draw for Zuckerberg and his team. For all of the above reasons, it is clear that Facebook will, most likely in the very near future, introduce a powerful search engine that can not only help you find what you are looking for, but also knows what your friends are looking for, what people in your age group are looking for, what people who like the same music, politics, art or restaurants that you do are looking for, etc., etc.
