After having a long discussion on the report that Nokia accused Apple for overriding Siri’s report stating Nokia Lumia 900 is the best smartphone. Apple has fixed the bug that made Siri declare that Lumia 900 is the best smartphone ever.

He said that after being repeated asked to answer the same question, his answers were either “you’re kidding, right?”, “Wait.. There are other phones too?” or “The one, you’re holding”. Apple states that siri uses ‘Search engine Wolphram Alpha’ to check the best response and give an answer to the question.

Apple delivers its response based on the reviews given by the users all across the web and the ranks given by Wolphram Alpha to the smartphone.

Apple’s own iPhone 4s was not listed among the best smartphones by Wolphram Alpha, which is the only phone Siri appeared for.

Despite this post that Apple resolved the case, it does not states that Apple was not responsible for altering Siri’s response.

Nokia launched a new handset- Lumia 900 with Microsoft’s window operating system and was well liked by the Nokia fans and mobile savvy people.

Earlier in last week, it was asked by a digital assistant that “what is the best smartphone ever?” “Nokia Lumia 900” was a prompt reply by siri, and not iPhone 4S. After watching this, apple got embarrassed, took an action and implemented a patch changing in siri’s response. He made some unexpected changes in the answer stating “wait, there are other phones?”, “the one you are holding” or “you’re kidding, right?”.

In statement published by the Sydney Morning Herald today, Nokia spokesperson Tracey Postill said:

Apple position Siri as the intelligent system that’s there to help, but clearly if they don’t like the answer, they override the software.

The actual reason, as Danny Sullivan at Search Engine Land cleverly points out, has nothing to do with Apple or Siri and everything to do with the Wolfram Alpha, the search engine that provides the program its intelligence.

Sullivan explains that Siri’s response is based on reviews from Best Buy and other unknown factors which produces an array of possible answers. Here’s his explanation of the phenomenon:

Of course, Wolfram will use its own mechanism for sorting. The bottom line is that Wolfram has ratings from Best Buy, and it’s not trying to weight those in any particular fashion such as number of reviews or number of purchases.

Nokia held Apple responsible for deliberately tampering with siri to make changes in his statement. Nokia did not hesitated in pointing the finger at Apple for the changes made, after even knowing that Siri draws its information from the third party and gives multiple responses too.

A new report has revealed that Apple’s iPhone was the most purchased smartphone in Japan last year, which accounted sales of 7.25 million, while Google’s Android was the top smartphone OS.

A MM Research Institute report — translated by Japanese blog Macotakara, via Engadget found that Apple sold 7.25 million gadgets to account for 30 percent share of total smartphone sales, putting it second. Smartphone ownership is still growing in Japan at fast pace, with comScore reporting they account for one in four devices, and Apple’s haul gave it 17 percent of total mobile phone sales in the country.

comScore also revealed that Android was Japan’s top dog for smartphones, and the OS accounted for 69 percent of sales based on platform. Although Android and Apple’s progress is influential, Japan’s adoption of smartphones is still in advancement and the feature phone sales stay vital.

Total smartphones shipments hit 42.74 million, which increased by 13.5 percent from 2010, with smartphones sales reaching 24.17 million. That is 57 percent of the total mobile devices purchased across the nation and it illustrates that Japan’s smartphone sector continues to grow at fast pace, with Web-enabled feature phones being replaced by app-centric devices.

MMRI concludes that Apple’s iOS and Android rule the Japanese smartphone market, as they do the same at global level, and together they dominated with 99 percent of all smartphones sold in Japan last year.

Apple is getting vital growth in Japan, where the company just a few days back was named the top consumer brand for the very first time. As well as the iPhone and the iPad is proving to be popular gadgets, and some Apple fans queued through the night to purchase the new iPad HD when it was launched in March, this year.

Apple Inc. has confirmed it has expanded its after-sales policy in Korea, offering customers with no-questions-asked substitutes for their Apple gadgets should they develop a ‘fault’ within a month after acquisition.

The company had earlier operated under a single global policy but stared adapting its guidelines in different areas, including the replacement of defective new iPhones from October 2011.

Korea’s Fair Trade Commission said that Apple started providing improved services on devices sold in Korea (excluding the iMac) from April 1, replacing with new devices within 30 days, in accordance with Korea’s domestic rules & regulations.

In line with policies in the UK and the US, Apple may also replace gadgets outside the guarantee period should a defect be the fault of the device maker and not the owner.

FTC spokesman Kim Chung-ki told the Korea Herald: “Apple confirmed that the renewed policy in Korea is the world’s best level compared to in other countries.”

The difference in Korea is that Apple will offer new replacements for its devices and will do so automatically if it develops a defect within that one month period.

Apple, ever undervalued in its response, said that it “revised its policy depending on different laws in different countries if the law better protects consumers.”

Google’s self-driven cars will soon be running on Nevada roads after it got approval for the nation’s first autonomous vehicle license from the state’s Department of Motor Vehicles on Monday.

This move came after officials rode along on drives on highways, in Carson City neighborhoods and along the famous Las Vegas Strip, the Nevada DMV said in a statement.

The Nevada legislature last year approved self-driven cars for the state’s roads, the first such law in the United States. That law went into effect on March 1, 2012.

Google’s self-driven cars depend on radar sensors, lasers, video cameras and a database of information collected from manually driven cars to assist in navigation, according to the company.

The Department of Motor Vehicles licensed a Toyota Prius that Google reformed with its experimental driver-less technology, which has been developed by Google Vice President Sebastian Thrun and Stanford professor.

According to the company, Google’s self-driving cars have crossed the Golden Gate Bridge and driven along the picturesque Pacific Coast Highway.

Nevada DMV director Bruce Breslow said in a statement that Autonomous vehicles are the “car of the future,” Further he added “The state also has plans to license autonomous vehicles owned by the members of the public.”

Legislation to administer autonomous cars is being examined in other states, including Google’s home state of California.

“The vast majority of vehicle accidents are due to human error. Through the use of computers, sensors and other systems, an autonomous vehicle is capable of analyzing the driving environment more quickly and operating the vehicle more safely,” California state Senator Alex Padilla said in March when he introduced that state’s autonomous car legislation.

The DMV said other car companies are also looking for self-driven car licenses in Nevada,.

Try to guess America’s most engaging social network. Twitter? Wrong. Facebook? Wrong. Pinterest? Wrong. Google Plus? Wrong again. According to comScore‘s latest social networking statistics, for the month of March, the San Francisco based site Tagged engages users like no other social networking service.

According to ComScore data, each time a Tagged user visited the site, he or she stuck around for 12.1 minutes which trailed only Tumblr (14.7 minutes) and defeated Facebook (10.9 minutes). Also, Tagged users visited an average of 18 times each day during March, next to Facebook’s average of 36 visits per vistor.

Tagged co-founder and CEO Greg Tseng says he’s happy about ComScore’s March data, but that his company has been among America’s most engaging social networks for about a year now. The secret to Tagged’s success? A pivot Tseng and co-founder Johann Schleier-Smith made around the beginning of 2008.

The old friends began Tagged in 2004, at the time angling it to be a Facebook-like social network for high schoolers. Eventually, nevertheless, Facebook augmented besides a closed college network and enabled everyone over the age of 12 to join the network.

“We took a hard look and decided we weren’t going to win,” Tseng says. “But we had found out a lot of our users were actually using Tagged to meet new people, so that led us to pivot into a new space called ‘social discovery,’ where people use sites to make new social relationships.”

As confronted to sites like Facebook, where users generally systematize and manage relationships developed offline, Tagged functions mainly as a portal to meet new people online for simply friendship or romance. The site’s algorithms motivates users to connect based on shared hobbies , interests & tastes.

Tseng says Tagged’s 10 million core monthly active users form an average of 100 million new connections per month. The site has been profitable since 2008, and over the past year tripled its staff to a current count of more than 170.

With social invention as a whole seen by many to be a mounting tide, Tseng believes Tagged’s accomplishment will persist to grow.

“If I look out at the next five or 10 years, I really see social discovery as big as social networking — in some sense I think you can think of social discovery as the engine for social networking,” he says, referencing Dunbar’s number, which theorizes that humans can maintain an average of 150 connections at a time.

“Facebook is the place where you maintain your current 150,” he says. “And Tagged will be the place where you refresh that 150.”

The upcoming launch of the Samsung Galaxy (or “next Samsung Galaxy” ) is arguably the most awaited launching of an Android powered smartphone ever. Just to be sure though, the Korean firm has sent out one final reminder of its event in London today (or tomorrow for those in the US)…specially for who have been hiding under a rock, permanently offline or moreover engaged for the last 6 months.

The reminder from its Next Galaxy website through Mobile Syrup follows media invites sent out last month, which came after a boat-load of belief that pointed to a launch in late May.

We were very provoked with HTC’s new One range of Android-powered smartphones and we are excited to see if Samsung can provide the same with the third device of its Galaxy range.

The company, a few days back denied the rumors it is integrating a 3D display into its upcoming , but has not revealed the details of the its new Galaxy III smartphone. One leak news suggested that the phone will consists of a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display screen and the company’s own quad-core Exynos processor, but this is not confirmed yet.

Samsung disclosed in February this year that it has shipped 20 million Galaxy II devices in the first ten months after launch and with shipments of the Galaxy Note also high, it will be expecting that the new device maintains strong demand for its mobile devices.

Independent analysis from Strategy Analytics and IDC pegged Samsung’s smartphone shipments as the largest within the industry, accounting for one third of total smartphone shipments, as it continues to be Apple’s main competitor.

Earlier it was reported that Apple is rejecting iOS apps that link to Dropbox for ambiguous reasons and the cloud-storage expert has now disclosed that it is working with Apple to resolve the issue.

The rejections center around an in-app link to the desktop version of Dropbox, which enables users to purchase increased storage space for their account, but the company is regularly communicating with Apple to resolve the issue, as a statement to Apple Insider unveils:

Apple is rejecting apps that use the Dropbox SDK because we allow users to create accounts. We’re working with Apple to come up with a solution that still provides an elegant user experience.

Dropbox is not just depending on Apple to fix the issue although, as it has developed a temporary solution while it works on fully resolving the issue, which is anticipated to be fixed over the next week.

The Dropbox service is heavily popular, despite of the fact that a number of competitors, including Google Drive, have joined the cloud-based storage party. As a de facto industry product, it is utilized by many great developers and third parties.

With that in mind, it’s not astonishing to know that Apple is working with Dropbox to resolve the rejections, which are troubling many members of its developers association.
